How did the Navy get "Navy Blue" ?

Experiment #1
One of the stories about the Navy Blue dates from 1745 when a hand of British naval officers decided to petition the Admiralty for an official uniform in order to standardize as did other navies of the day. In order to solve this, the Admiralty requested certain officers to appear in what they considered a good design.

Experiment #3
Some liked red, some liked green.  The final decision belonged to King George II, who selected the colors from the riding gown of the Duchess of Bedford.

Experiment #2
But it is said that to gain his Majesty’s consent, the Duchess wore the colors already selected by her husband. Ever since, Blue and White became the official colors for British Navy. United States Navy uniforms have essentially followed the British traditions.

Experiment #4
Even today, the Navy Blue – White stripes combination is one of the most beloved prints and have exploded this Spring in all the shops.
